I hadn’t been to roller derby training for 2 weeks so I decided to go today even though I was still feeling ill. It was a decent enough session to begin with, us refs went over failure to reform penalties and no pack starts while the rest worked on strategy. We moved onto our standard ref circuit but then did some work with the skaters doing a few mock jams.

Welp, the crew decided I was ready to take the position of jam ref, which is considerably more in-depth than outer pack ref. If I wasn’t sure of something I couldn’t just not call it. I even had to keep track of 2 jammers instead of the usual one.

Needless to say I fucked up. I was too busy trying to figure out things that I even forgot to call lead jammer, I missed a false start, and failed to do so many little things. I know it was my first time, the refs know it too, but I couldn’t help but feel the skaters got annoyed at me. Bah humbug, I’m really not feeling too great about it all, it was more of an ordeal that I was ready for tonight.

Howdy stranger! I'm Will, a guy with a passion for fire dancing, roller derby and extreme unicycle. I'm currently a second year psychology student who enjoys playing video games just a bit too much. More often than not I listen to metal, but certainly don't limit myself to just one genre.

So, yeah.
